application of sound doctrine
A strange thing happened in Trinatarianism class tonight. Following the lecture, the mandatory discussion on modalism, we spent the last 15 minutes discussing application. Now, I'm not going to deny that trinitarianism is not the easiest doctrine to apply to your daily life, however, a lot of the suggestions were good. I suppose that as an orthodox evangelical, influenced heavily by fundamental Baptists, I've always been a bit afraid of the Holy Spirit. Not in a sense that I don't listen to him, although I've been guilty of that as well. More in a way that I would wonder about certain styles of worship. Could they really be honoring to God? I think, as I understand the work of the Holy Spirit better, He has outgrown my little box for Him. That's good, but for me, a little scary. As a result of some of this, the power aspect of the Holy Spirit has been a bit neglected in my own life.
I don’t think I’ll run and teach the Sparks the full doctrine of the Trinity as a result of this, but it has challenged my thinking.
